CHIPPING Norton Town, one of the longest-established clubs in Oxfordshire, are in danger of folding.

The Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division outfit, who were founded in 1893, are in crisis due to a lack of helpers.

And now they have called an extraordinary general meeting tomorrow (7.30) when anyone interested in the club's survival is urged to attend.

Chairman Sean Robson, who lives in London, took over at the helm after Nigel Harrison stood down at the end of last season.

He says he is a one-man committee - and is desperate for help.

"I am the chairman, treasurer, secretary, press officer, programme editor, tea boy, kitman, gateman, commercial manager and fundraiser, ball boy and matchday steward," he said.

"Every club at this level, and indeed several levels below, needs to have at least five, and actually some have as many as 20 members on a committee. So this is not a very healthy position and one which is way too much for just one person."

So far, Robson's pleas for help have fallen on deaf ears.

"Despite several appeals in matchday programmes and on the internet, nobody has come forward to assist off the field, and we simply cannot continue without bodies to assist with the running of the club," he added.

"I am pleading to the public of Chipping Norton and surrounding villages.

"If you care at all about the continuation of this football club, then come along on Friday, listen, and then decide whether you can offer as little as an hour a week.

"Whatever can be offered would make a massive difference. Unless people come forward, the sad truth is there will be no Chipping Norton Town in the new year."
