WOLVERCOTE light heavyweight Vince Sessegnon recorded his second successive win by stopping Midlands champion Ashley Farrell in round two of their club contest at Coventry.

The opening minute saw the boxers weighing each other up like a pair of chess grandmasters with few punches being exchanged.

But it was Home Counties champion Sessegnon who first won the psychological battle - and then the war - when the duo started to open up.

The 27-year-old sports therapist was more nimble on his feet and was quick to find the chinks in his rival's armour with a succession of neat uppercuts.

Thirty seconds into round two, a looping right clipped Farrell on the chin and then a precise left hook bowled him over.

The Coventry man's legs had gone and he could not rise in time to beat the count.

Wolvercote coach Faz Keyani said: "Vince is improving all the time and it is a pity that the ABA Championships are no longer staged at the end of the season - those few months would have made a big difference to his title chances."

Berinsfield have two boxers through to this weekend's Golden Belt national semi-finals, formerly known as the Schools Champion- ships.

Will Joyce was technically superb as he mesmerised Redcar rival John McBride in their Class 1 48 kg encounter at Cheshunt.

Always quicker to the punch, he kept his opponent on the back foot from the bell by launching straight rights off the jab to cruise through the three rounds and claim a comprehensive win from the judges.

Joyce will be joined at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Aylesbury by John Collins, who had a walkover after his opponent withdrew on the day.

Berinsfield coaching supremo Mel Corrigan said: "To get two boys through to the last four of a major national event is a tremendous achievement for this gym and I'm sure they will make us proud in the semi finals."
