MELISSA Hawtin and Beth Swords once again starred for Oxford City as they took part in the Chiltern League meeting held at Culham Park.

First off on Saturday was Swords in the under 13 girls' race.

She got away to a good start on the treacherous course.

However, she was pegged back by Bedford & County's Emily Wallbank, and as they headed up the route of the Thames on their second lap, it was neck-and-neck.

But not for the first time, Swords showed an incredible burst of speed on the home straight, pulling away from Wallbank to win by six seconds.

Following in Swords' footsteps, Hawtin produced a commanding performance.

She led from the first gun, and by the time they reached the steep hill for the first time, Hawtin had already opened up a gap of 50 metres over her great rival, Sarah Connor (Shaftesbury-Barnet).

On the second lap, Hawtin continued to pull away, and on the second steep incline, her lead was an unassailable one minute.

Danielle Anderson finished sixth and Amy Chivers 18th.

In the under 11 girls' race, Beth Hawtin finished third, while Lauren completed a good day for the Hawtin family, finishing fifth in the under 13 race.

Jade Walker crossed the line in seventh, with Jess Anstice finishing 30th.

The under 17 girls' race saw Hayley Chaundy coming home 16th.

In the boys races, Josh Tack was sixth in the under boys race, with Harry Robertson fifth in the under 13 event.

Aaron Simpson completed City's good day, finishing sixth in the under 15 boys contest.
