FIELDSIDE closed the gap on leaders Thame A to one point at the top of Division 1 of the Oxford & District League by beating Eynsham 3-0.

Mike Chapman (+100) nearly took the highest break for Section 3 players when he ran out with a 24 unfinished run, just two short, against Mick McCluskey (+90) 150-122.

Norman Woodcock (+70) made a 24 break in beating Geoff Watson (+90) 150-140.

Captain Paul Robinson (-30) then compiled breaks of 31, 39 and 55 to crush Roy Gascoyne (+110) 200-151.

It is very tight at the top of Division 2 where CCC A, CCC B and Morris Motors are all tied on 18 points, with six wins and five losses each.

The clash between the Division 1 and 2 leaders saw Thame A victorious 2-1 despite losing the opening game when Roger Tomlin (+70) beat Mark Boyson (+70) 150-115 with Boyson making a 26 break.

Captain Paul Evans (+40), who is unbeaten so far, beat Doug Baker (+70) 200-147 to level the match and then Mark Syrrett (+60) gave Thame A victory when he defeated Bob Hayward (+70) 150-118.

Thame B sprang a big surprise when they won 3-0 at HCC A, their first maximum since October 2005.

Captain Tom Fletcher (+80) led the way overcoming Terry Walsh (+80) 150-124.

Peter Hawkes (+125) won his first game of the season for Thame B when he defeated the experienced Doug Howse (-90) 200-116.

Nigel Bossom (+60) then kept up his winning sequence by outscoring John Williams (+60) 150-118.
