KILKENNY batsmen Darren Gordon said there is more to come after hitting his third century in two weeks, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The 25-year-old right-hander, who bats at No 5, smashed 103 off just 50 balls for the Carterton-based OCA League club against Stanton Harcourt on Saturday.

The previous weekend he made two centuries in two days, hitting 133 and 154 not out against Kennington and West Witney respectively.

However, Saturday’s heroics could not prevent the Division 5 leaders from slipping to a two-wicket defeat off the penultimate ball of the last over.

Gordon said: “I hadn’t really found my form in the last couple of years, but this year it’s just clicked and I’ve been hitting it like it’s a beach ball.

“I did some training over the winter and have been seeing it well and it feels like I haven’t stopped batting. “I think I got out at the wrong time, we really needed another 50 or 60 runs and I had been going well, so that was disappointing, really. “I can see myself getting a couple more, especially if the weather stays nice, because that helps when batting. “But you know what cricket’s like. I might not hit another century all season. “I want to get up to 1,000 runs this season, so I need 330 more and have eight games left to do it in. “I’d also like to hit 150 again and keep my average above 60 or 70.”

His skipper Duncan McDonald, who took three wickets in five balls, added: “Once he is in, he tends to stay in. When he gets in the zone and gets going then he can score runs very quickly.

“He’s a fitness instructor, so when he hits the ball, it stays hit.”
