Aston Rowant were involved in a thrilling finish in their Division 2 West match at home to Farnham Royal, which ended in a draw with the scores level.

It all came down to a dramatic final over, with Rowant needing eight for victory.

Skipper Wes Morrick was unable to score from the first two deliveries bowled by Ed Packard.

But he hit two runs off both the next two balls, leaving four to win.

Morrick was run out for 29 going for a second run off the fifth ball.

This left the hosts needing three to win off of the last ball.

Adam Muttitt was facing the last ball. He played the ball towards mid-wicket.

Muttitt and Karl Penhale sped away to complete two runs, but were unable to set off for the third, leaving their score at 213-8 in reply to Royal’s 213 all out.

Batting first in very hot conditions, the visitors soon lost Sameer Patel to Morrick.

They rebuilt their innings, but lost wicket at regular intervals.

At 106-5 off of 31 overs, Rowant seemed to be in control after a spell of 3-28 from Gordon Harris.

However, Royal’s captain Ollie Clayson and Muhammad Abid put on 71 for the sixth wicket.

Abid batted with the tail to move the score on to a respectable 213 all out off 57.5 overs, Ricky Hopwood re-turning figures of 4-32.

The hosts stuttered at the start of their reply, losing Tim Morgan to a run out.

Hopwood and top-scorer Damian Shirazi (61) put together a stand of 52 to make Rowant favourites.

But both departed in quick succession to leave them on 114-4.

However, Nick Ferraby scored 42 and combined with Josh Smith and Morrick to move Aston in sight of the finish-line.

Richard Cook scored freely before he was run out in the 51st over to set the scene for the dramatic climax.
