SWIMMING: Ashley-Sparkes stars as Blue Fins finish on top

Blue Fins topped the standings on 174 points, edging out Bedford Modernians’ total of 158 by securing 16 first-place finishes and 12 seconds.

Freddie Ashley-Sparks won three of those for Bicester, coming out on top in the boys’ 11 & under 50m fly, 11 & under 50m butterfly and 10 & under 50m freestyle, as well as featuring in the successful boys’ 11 & under 4x25m medley team.

Tom Whitley won two races, storming to victory in the boys’ nine & under breaststroke and winning the 25m butterfly.

There were two wins for Lottie Wynne-Jones, who took victory in the girls’ 10 & under backstroke and 50m butterfly.

And it was also a successful day for William Whitley, who won the boys’ 12 & under 50m breaststroke and finished second in the 12 & under 50m freestyle.

Meanwhile, Daniel Mowlem won five races at Abingdon Vale SC’s summer meet at the town’s White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre.
