There was a strong field of 20 for Littlemore AS’s opening river match of the new season on the Medley stretch of the Thames, where bream decided the outcome of the RC Smith Cup.

Paul Brant bagged the silverware with six of them on groundbait feeder with red maggot on the hook for a winning 20lb 0oz.

He was a long way clear of Alan Campbell, who had three skimmer bream using groundbait feeder with worm for 3.15.0.

Mark Shepherd took third spot with a mixed bag on pole with maggot for 2.15.0.

A bonus tench of 4lb helped Maurice Winstone to victory in the Kidlington AS P Hall Cup on the Thames at Folly Bridge.

He also had roach and perch on the pole with worm to top the 15-strong field with 10.0.0.

Not far behind was Dougie Foreshew with 8.2.0 of roach, perch and bleak on a topper float with maggot.

Dave Scott-Picton was third with 7.14.0 of perch on pole and worm.

Points (after 2 matches): 1 A Middleton 14, 2= D Foreshew & M Winstone 11, 4 J Bean 10.

Fifteen anglers sweated it out in an Open match fished on the Thames at Radley, where Paul Harrop (Turners) took top spot with 8.2.0 of perch on pole and maggot over chopped worm.

Dave Kirk (Isis) had 7.6.0 for second and Martin Kirk (Sensas A4) was third with 6.12.0.

Beehive AC entered the frying pan which was Frobury Farm to fish their match and Cup Winners’ Cup, the intense heat slowing sport until the later stages when the fish decided it was time to feed.

Kevin Jeacock caught 62.9.0 of carp and tench on pole and maggot, pipping Tim Belcher with 61.0.0 on pole and paste.

Nigel Waters had 48lb of carp to pole and sweetcorn for third.

Tackley Estates AC were back at Stable Lake in Kirtlington where they beat the lake record the previous week.

Although the carp were not quite as co-operative, the 14 anglers had a good day’s fishing.

John Fisher put together 63.10.0 on method feeder fished tight to the island with maggot to capture top spot, followed by Pete Parry with 62.0.0 on long pole, maggot and worm for second.

Stephen Malone had 44.12.0 on pole, meat and maggot for third.
