Hammer thrower Emma O’Hara will bid to strike gold for Oxfordshire again at the English Schools’ Track & Field Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on July 5 and 6.

The 18-year-old, from Larkmead, Abingdon, won the intermediate girls’ competition at Gateshead in 2011, but had to settle for bronze at the north-east venue 12 months ago after stepping up an age group.

Now in her second year as a senior, O’Hara, who recorded a throw of 53.26m in one of the non-scoring events at the Oxfordshire Schools’ Track & Field Championships, will be looking to go two places better.

Headington’s Simi Fajemisin, a silver medallist in the junior girls’ long jump last year, tackles the intermediate age group this time. The pair are named in a 25-strong Oxfordshire team.
