Brothers Robbie and David Clanfield have fulfilled a dream for their late father, Cyril, by teaming up with nephew Remy Clanfield to represent Oxfordshire in the Middleton Cup this season.

Robbie, 46, and David, 38, who play for Carterton, and former clubmate Remy, 27, who now plays at Headington, lined up in the sport’s most prestigious county competition for the first time against Middlesex at Bush Hill Park two weeks ago.

The trio had played for Oxfordshire in previous seasons, but never together.

And the moment was particularly poignant as it had always been an ambition of Cyril, a former Carterton president, chairman and captain, to see the trio play alongside each other for the county.

However, he sadly died on April 1 at the age of 80.

David said: “Dad started us off and he wanted to see the three of us play in the Middleton Cup.

“It was all very poignant for the three of us. We were all a bit choked to be honest.”
