HEADINGTON Road Runners set a club record time in winning their first Ridgeway Relay title since 2006.
Their team of ten completed the challenging 87-mile course from Ivinghoe Beacon to Marlborough in 9hrs 36mins 41secs, holding off Newbury and Vale of Aylesbury.
Headington finished seven minutes clear of last year’s winners, Newbury, and were 15 minutes faster than their previous best.
Maxwell Robinson (stage two) and Chris Dettmar (nine) clocked fastest splits, while James Eve (three) and Jason Smith (ten) were second.
All teams had to include at least two ladies – with Nicola Smith and Jude Craft in the Headington side, while Mark Richards, Dave Gavaghan, Fergus Campbell and John Woods completed the line-up.
Eynsham Road Runners finished fifth in 10.28.33, Witney Road Runners were eighth in 10.35.36, and Alchester ninth in 10.48.44.
