Ian Lenagan is hoping to help make the Football League stronger after being elected to the board.

The Oxford United chairman was the overwhelming choice of League Two clubs to become their representative, receiving 18 out of a possible 23 votes.

He replaces Barnet chief Anthony Kleanthous following the Bees’ relegation to the Blue Square Bet Conference.

Lenagan was one of two newly-elected members announced yesterday, with Notts County chief executive James Rodwell also voted onto the eight-man body.

The U’s owner said: “To be elected to the board of the Football League is a proud moment for me personally and for Oxford United Football Club.

“I will be working hard as part of the board to help make the Football League even stronger.”

Greg Clarke, chairman of the Football League, said: “I’m delighted to welcome both James and Ian to the board of the Football League.

“They both bring with them a wealth of experience and I am sure they will make a positive contribution in the coming months and years.

“I look forward to working with them.”
