Oxford produced another dominant display to extend their lead at the top of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West table with a six-wicket success at Falkland on Saturday.

Shami Mendis starred with 4-18 off ten probing overs as Ian Crosby’s side continued their impressive start to the season.

After opting to bat first on what appeared to be a good surface, Falkland started well and moved to 70-1 off just 14 overs.

The introduction of Mendis turned the game on its head, however, as he produced a magical spell of off-spin bowling to rip through the Falkland middle-order.

Crosby’s decision to name four spinners in his line up was totally vindicated as Ian Evans (2-9) Francois Vainker (2-35) and Andrew Clough (1-0) all took wickets to bowl the Berkshire outfit out for a meagre total of 125.

Oxford suffered a late collapse chasing a similarly low total last week against Reading, but there were to be no such alarms this time around.

Although Hendrik Van Dyk and Stewart Laudat fell cheaply, opener Clough led the way with an assured innings of 60 as the division leaders cruised home with 20 overs to spare, for the loss of just four wickets.

Oxford have now won four of their opening five matches since suffering relegation last season and hold a 19-point lead at the top of the table ahead of Great & Little Tew.
