Karl Penhale took six wickets as Aston Rowant won a thrilling Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West game at Gerrards Cross on Saturday.

But it was skipper Wes Morrick who held his nerve in a tense finale to steer his side to a dramatic victory.

Rowant made a flying start, Penhale taking the first four wickets as the hosts were reduced to 36-4.

Brynley Richards and Pra-tik Patel led a recovery, putting on 80 for the fifth wicket.

But when they were out, Tew wasted little time wrapping up the innings as Gerrards Cross were all out for 158 off 46.1 overs.

Penhale finished with 6-24 off ten overs, with Morrick returning 0-14 off his ten.

Although starring with the ball, Penhale was out on his first delivery as Rowant made a stuttering reply.

They were in trouble at 56-4 and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Morrick held up one end, but it wasn’t until No 9 Thad Cooper shared a crucial stand of 27 that Rowant looked like they might claim victory.

The visitors lost their ninth wicket six runs short when Will Rooney was dismissed.

Morrick and No 11 Gordon Harris took the game to the last over, where they needed two runs to win.

Morrick ran a single off the opening delivery and then Harris ran a leg bye off the next as Rowant edged home.
