London Welsh head coach Lyn Jones is reportedly set to leave the club.

The 48-year-old is being lined up as Newport Gwent Dragons’ new director or rugby, according to reports in Wales.

Former Welsh international Jones played his club rugby for Newport and would be a popular appointment with their fans.

The Exiles, who have yet to confirm whether they will still be playing in Oxford, were relegated from the Aviva Premiership last season.

After Welsh’s final top-flight game, Jones said he would stay with the club provided they had a clear plan for the future.

“If London Welsh are serious about their ambitions, I certainly hope that Oxford will be home,” he said then. “I have made it quite clear to everybody involved in running the club that you have got to have a vision, ambition and a plan to back it up. “I don’t mean a six-month plan. I mean a three-year plan.” Exiles last week announced eight new signings.
