North Oxford were on the end of a heavy defeat in their Aegon Team Tennis Regional Open Men’s clash against Maidenhead.

Hosts North, lost 12-0 with Chris Brewster the only player to win a set in the South West East encounter.

Jack Rooney was unfortunate to lose his No 1 men’s singles, going down 7-6, 7-6 to Philip Downs. Jay Sexton was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by James Weeks and Thomas Bowden lost 6-3, 6-3 at the hands of Robert Flynn.

Brewster won the second set against Timothy Paton, but went down 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. The two men’s doubles were both one-sided.

Jack Rooney and Dave Rooney lost 6-4, 6-3 to Downs and Paton, while Sexton and Bowden were defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Weeks and Flynn.

The defeat leaves North Oxford fourth in the table with one match to play. There was, however, better news for North Oxford in the county division.

An 8-4 victory over Woodstock sees them top the group and progress to the play-offs for a place in the regional division.

Eduardo Pereira and Mark Wallace beat Matthew White and Iain Wright respectively in their singles matches.

But wins for the Woodstock duo of Chris Corfield and John Penney over Rob Morris and Sam Hemmant saw honours even ahead of the doubles.

However, Pereira and Hemmant beat White and Penney 6-0, 6-2 and then Wallace and Morris saw off Wright and Corfield 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 to ensure victory.
