Former Olympic 400m runner Iwan Thomas will be just one of the competitors at the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Blenheim Triathlon this weekend.

Thomas, still the British record-holder at the distance, competes in the male sprint which starts at 11am on Saturday.

The event, which is in its ninth year, was won last year by Alistair and Jonny Brownlee (pictured, left to right) who later took gold and bronze respectively at the London Olympics.

They crossed the line together in an identical time of 57mins 16secs after completing the 750k swim, 20k bike ride and the 5k run.

Meanwhile, a five-strong team of Mark Bayliss, Mark Burland, Tyler O’Callaghan, Ed Sutton and Ross Calder are aiming to complete as many sprint triathletes as possible over the two days of the event. That could mean, injury apart, tackling around six triathlons.

On Sunday, it is the turn of the Elite athletes, with reigning biathle world champion Richard Stannard heading the men’s race at noon, with the women starting at 11.45am.

They include former international runner Emma Pallant and UK Olympian Vicky Holland.

Sky Sports news presenter Charlie Webster and professional triathlete Rhys Davey will compete as a relay team in the corporation category.
