OXFORD United are rumoured to be in talks with former Swindon Town full back Callum Kennedy.
The defender, 23, still has another year left on his contract at Scunthorpe United, but is thought to be available on a free transfer as manager Brian Laws attempts to make room in his squad for new signings.
Neither club have commented on the speculation, but sources in Scunthorpe expect an agreement to be reached in the next week to ten days.
Kennedy, who started out at Swindon, is understood to be keen for a move back south.
United are also believed to be monitoring Bournemouth striker Matt Tubbs.
A goalscorer is top of U’s boss Chris Wilder’s wish-list this summer and the 28-year-old rarely started as the Cherries won promotion to the Championship last season.
Any deal is likely to be a loan, but Rotherham United have also been linked.
