RICHIE Bourne has left his position as Abingdon United manager.

After revealing the club were to quit the Evo-Stik Southern League to return to the Uhlsport Hellenic League next season, it was originally announced that Bourne would stay on as manager.

However, a club statement last night revealed that Bourne will leave his position.

“Following a meeting between Abingdon United and current manager Richie Bourne, it was agreed mutually that in the best interest of both parties that Richie would now not manage the club for the coming season,” a club statement read.

“With the club stepping down into the Hellenic League next season and with a new policy of using more local young players, it was agreed that a new local manager be sought as soon as possible.

“The club wishes to place on record their thanks for the efforts and commitment of Richie over the last three years whilst in the Southern League.

“The club will seek a new manager as soon as possible.”
