Oxfordshire teenager Miles Hammond helped Gloucestershire to a five-wicket win over Yorkshire in the Yorkshire Bank 40 on his debut yesterday.
The 17-year-old off-spinner, from Oxford who plays for Aston Rowant, bowled his full quota of eight overs and claimed the wicket of Gary Ballance for figures of 1-50 as Yorkshire made 240-6.
Skipper Michael Klinger then hit 96 as Gloucestershire retained top spot in Group C by reaching 243-5.
Hammond, who attends St Edward’s School in Oxford, has found himself the county’s first-choice spinner following the suspension of Oxfordshire’s Jack Taylor pending an investigation of his action and Ed Young’s wrist injury.
Klinger said of the England Under 19 Test player: “Miles Hammond bowled better than his figures suggested and could easily have finished with 3-40. We don’t want to heap too much on him too soon, but he looked an exciting talent.”
