SCOTT Davies says the warm welcome he received in a short spell at Oxford United meant there was no hesitation in choosing to stay for next season.

The midfielder joined as a free agent in March and went on to feature in the last 12 games of the campaign.

He impressed manager Chris Wilder enough to be offered the chance to stay for next season, and Davies was delighted to put pen to paper.

“I had a little taster towards the end of last season and loved every minute of it. From the staff to the players and the fans, everyone’s been good to me,” he said.

“Everything on and off the pitch seems to be above the standard of League Two, from what I’ve experienced at other clubs.

“My agent spoke to a couple of other clubs but didn’t go through the process of negotiating contracts because I wanted to be at Oxford.”

The U’s provided a bright finish to the season for Davies, but the rest of the campaign was one to forget.

After featuring regularly in the 2011-12 run-in as Crawley Town won promotion in League Two, the ex-Reading trainee found himself frozen out after Richie Barker succeeded Steve Evans as manager.

The 25-year-old played just 18 minutes for the club before his contract was paid up in December. It was a tough experience for Davies and he is determined to make a return to League One with United.

He said: “While I was at Crawley I felt massively undervalued and felt I was treated unfairly, having played the last 15 games of the season when we got promoted.

“But I’ve joined a bigger club than Crawley, they’re just in a lower league.

“That’s the way I believe in things, there’s no reason why we can’t go into League One and hopefully I can get my own back.”
