SPINNER Jack Taylor, who came through the youth ranks of Oxfordshire cricket before joining Gloucestershire, has been suspended from bowling by the England and Wales Cricket Board after being reported for a suspect action.

Hampshire seamer Glenn Querl has also been banned. The pair were referred for independent analysis after being reported twice in the last year, the ECB confirmed yesterday.

An ECB statement read: “In both cases, no previous evidence was available and hence their bowling actions were subject to the independent analysis process set out in the ECB regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

“This analysis took place on Monday, May 20 2013. The report of the independent analysis was received by ECB yesterday (May 28).

“The reports identified that the bowling actions of each player displayed elbow extension in excess of the permitted 15 degrees during analysis. This analysis follows the same procedures used by (the International Cricket Council) in such circumstances.

“Consequently and in accordance with the regulations, both Querl and Taylor are suspended from bowling for England and in competitive county cricket until such time as they have submitted to a fresh independent analysis in which it is concluded that they have remedied their actions. “The suspension is with immediate effect.”

Taylor has taken only six wickets in four LV=County Championship Division 2 appearances this season, but has also scored 178 runs at an average of 44.50, leaving him fourth in the county’s batting averages.

The 21-year-old, who began his career with Great & Little Tew CC, turned professional in 2010 and has taken 21 wickets in his first-class career to date. Gloucestershire kept a close eye on the youngster, who had been part of their academy programme since 2007. He impressed for the 2nd XI in 2008 and played for the England Development side against South Africa and MCC Universities in the same year.

His brother, Matt, is also on Gloucestershire’s books Gloucesterhire CCC and the ECB have stated they will make no further comment at this stage.

Zimbabwe-born Querl has been playing 2nd XI cricket for his county, but has represented the Unicorns in three Yorkshire Bank 40 games, taking one wicket.
