THAME Town secured their first win of the season in a thrilling finish to their Cherwell League Division 1 match at Buckingham Town.

The visitors put themselves in command through Matt Higgs (5-26) and Sam Lachlan (4-46) as Buckingham were rolled over for 121 in 38 overs.

Thame had 62 overs to score the required runs and only prevailed with nine balls and one wicket to spare after James Gear took 3-29 and Jack Parish 3-35.

Shipton-under-Wychwood also broke their duck in a tense finale, as they squeezed past Great Brickhill by seven runs.

Jason Hunt hammered 43 and Ian Lewis struck 32 not out before running out of partners in the visitors’ 168 all out.

Garth Davson (4-59) and Julian Blackwell (3-29) were the pick of the home attack.

Jasper Davies hit 31 to keep Brickhill in contention, but Sasha Barrass claimed 4-23 and George Seacole 4-53 as the hosts came up short on 161.

Horspath went top after thrashing basement boys Leighton Buzzard Town by eight wickets.

Tom Light’s 39 provided a platform for Town, on which Jack Kempster capitalised with an unbeaten 42.

But Paul Jeacock (4-26) and Adam Krol (4-42) dominated the other visiting batsmen, and they were all out for 158.

Robbie Eason (62) and Joe Todd (31) set Horspath on the path to victory, and Jimmy Phillips (32no) finished the job with 13 overs to spare.

Oxford Downs were forced to cling on for a draw at Oxford 2nd to leave both sides still hunting their first win.

John Barrett hit 71, Stefan van Dyk 44 and former Downs batsman Tim Sutton 32 as Oxford racked up 240-6. Adam Price (5-51) was easily the best of the visiting bowlers.

Wes Bartlett hit 59 after tea, and Darryl Woods (37) offered some resistance, but Downs were 172-9 at the close.

Twyford crawled to 65-7 from 47 overs in a turgid draw at home to Banbury 2nd.

The visitors had found scoring difficult themselves, posting 130 all out from 52.2 overs.

Andrew Sabin compiled a patient 30, but Bilal Afzal (5-24) and Muhammad Khan (5-47) were on top throughout.

Banbury’s modest total proved to be more than enough as Twyford settled for a draw early in their reply.
