Reigning champions Abingdon Vale won at Kennington by the skin of their teeth in the first week of the Oxfordshire boys Under 11 competition.

Luke Maslen’s unbeaten 27 saw the champions to 88-5 off 20 overs.

In reply, Kennington finished on 88-6, thanks to Dan Rowley with 25 not out, Vale taking the points by virtue of losing one fewer wicket.

There was also a thriller at Horspath, where the hosts made 89-4 before Lucas Pugh (27no) put Warborough & Shillingford in the hunt.

The final over saw the visitors needing six to win, but nine-year-old Alfie Turner took a hat-trick to secure a win for Horspath.

At Combe, Josh Brookes returned 5-9 to restrict Banbury to 60-5, despite 27 not out from Jenny Weishe. The hosts knocking the runs off for the loss of five wickets.

Chadlington made the highest score in the Ron Maudsley Under 13 Trophy, posting 162-2. In reply, MP Sports Academy replied with 73.
