Pawel Jaskolski roun-ded of an excellent season by thrashing his big rival Karl Bushell in the final of the Oxford & District Invitation tournament at Kidlington Forum.

In the clash between the league’s top two players, who tied for the most wins during the season, the Vikings player romped past Forum’s Bushell 21-3, 21-8, 21-6 to retain the Oxford Mail Cup.

Junior player Lewis Sum-ner (Bicester), who trains at Grantham Academy, had his mark with a scintillating 3-1 victory over Mark Scott (Holton), but failed to advance from the group stage.

The top four seeds reached the semi-finals.

Bushell defeated Andy Mis-seldine 3-1.

Top-seed Joskolski took out his teammate Alan Cherry, who had saved two match points in the fourth – one on an edge – before taking the fifth 11-9 in his last-eight clash against Holton’s Mark Scott.

Bushell gained some solace by defeating Misseldine 3-1 to retain his veterans title. Dawn Pearce (Begbroke) claimed her fifth ladies’ crown when defeating teammate Janet Brown in three tight games in the final.

Pearce, who was given an early scare by Forum’s Minh Van, and Brown had eased through their respective semi-finals Sharon Curtis (Holton) and Nikki Francis (Forum).

The four entries in the ladies doubles played a round-robin, with the title going on tie-break to Brown and Vicky Coll, who has just celebrated her 12th birthday.

The rest of the doubles belonged to Tony Stead (Ruth-erford).

Stead and Bushell beat the Bicester pairing of Tony Gor-man and Jason Tustain in the men’s doubles final, while in the mixed Stead and Pearce prevailed over Sumner and Brown.
