Oxford's Jason Plato was left to rue a puncture in the final race at Thruxton as he was knocked off the top of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship standings.

Plato was leading the afternoon’s third contest in his MG KX Momentum Racing car when a flat tyre forced him out.

Combined with second and fifth-place finishes in the two earlier races, it saw Plato drop to third place in the championship behind Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan.

In race one, Jordan suffered a last-lap puncture, leaving Neal to take his 50th BTCC career victory for the Honda Yuasa Racing team.

Plato hung on for second, with Toby Onslow-Cole third.

Neal doubled up in race two in commanding fashion after withstanding some early pressure from old rival Plato, who faded to finish fifth.

With Plato suffering a puncture in the finale, Gordon Shedden completed a hat-trick of wins for the Honda Yuasa Racing team.

Banbury’s Will Bratt, driving a WIX Racing Audi A4, finished 18th, 22nd and 17th.

Standings: 1 M Neal 137, 2 A Jordan 124, 3 J Plato 121, 4 G Shedden 109, 5 S Tordoff 103, 6 J Smith 85, 7 A Morgan 85, 8 C Turkington 80, 9 T Onslow-Cole 66, 10 A Smith 58.
