Great & Little Tew snatched defeat from the jaws of victory to go down by one run in an amazing finish at Dinton in the Home Counties Premier League Twenty20 first round.

Chasing Dinton’s 139-7, Tew arrived at the final over on 138-3.

But then left-arm spinner Alan Massey bowled a double wicket maiden, dismissing Josh Garrett and Robbie Shurmer to leave Tew shattered.

The visitors had bowled well to restrict Dinton, with stand-in skipper Joe White (3-32) the leading wicket-taker as Massey top-scored with 44.

White then contributed what looked like a match-winning 64, but it wasn’t to be.

Oxford thrashed hosts Reading by 95 runs to secure a second-round tie at Banbury on Bank Holiday, Monday, May 27.

Jamie Perkin (46) top-scored in Oxford’s 158-4, before Reading struggled to 63-7.

Aston Rowant slipped to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Gerrards Cross.

Opener Damian Shirazi made 61 of Rowant’s 173-3.

But Cross eased home with two overs to spare, with Matt Watson hammering an unbeaten 79.
