SIX teams will go for glory in the OURFC Invitational Sevens at Iffley Road on Saturday (11am).

The field has been reduced to two groups of three after Leicester Tigers and London Welsh were late withdrawals.

Oxford University face Worcester Warriors and Oxford Rugby League in Group 1.

Group 2 features Leeds Rugby Academy, White Hart Marauders Academy and Bath University.

Dark Blues captain John Carter said: “The OURFC Invitational Sevens is an event we all look forward to. “With matches coming thick and fast throughout the day, it promises to be exciting for rugby fans and players alike.

“I hope families come down to support all the teams, especially the home side.’’ Tickets are £5 and £2 for concessions.

  • THE Lions roared to victory in Witney RFC’s sevens tournament.

Representing the charity Special Effect, Lions beat Witney Academy 31-7 in the final.

Lions’ tries in the final came from captain Robbie Mills, Luke Manning, Matt Clarke and Lewis Collins, who are all Witney players, plus Ruislip’s Joe Collins.

Mark Hughes replied for Witney Academy.

Pumas came third in the competition, after beating Oxfordshire Fire Service.

  • CAPTAIN Jez Hicks picked up a player-of-the-year double at Witney RFC’s end of season awards.

Hicks was named players’ player and first team player.

Dave Martingale, who stepped down after nine years as first-team manager received a special award.

  • MIKE Harris bagged a smilar brace at Bicester’s awards.

Harris won the players’ player and captain’s player titles.

  • JONNY Williams was voted Littlemore’s player-of-the-year at their awards dinner.
