CHRIS Dettmar enjoyed an emphatic victory in the Richmond Park Marathon, breaking the course record in the process.
The 43-year-old Headington Road Runner completed the 26.2-mile trail course in 2hrs 35mins 51secs, coming home more than 21 minutes ahead of the second-placed runner on his marathon debut.
Dettmar’s victory came just two weeks after he won the 40-44 age group category at the European Long Course Duathlon Championships in Holland.
“It was a good debut marathon, albeit on quite a tough course,” said Dettmar.
“I know the organisers and didn’t want somewhere where there was pressure to run fast.
“I have run round Richmond Park hundreds of times.
“The course is hilly and off-road.
“I was aiming to keep 5min 50sec miling, but I dropped down to 5.55 pace by the end.”
