Stonesfield lifted the Oxfordshire Senior League President’s Cup for the second time, following a 2-0 victory against Oakley United at Abingdon Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

It was doubly sweet for boss Marc Jordon, in his first season at the helm, as he had won the competition as a Stonesfield player in 2008.

His side took the lead on 18 minutes. Paul Penny and George Redknap combined to put through Matt Baker who found the top corner from 15 yards.

And it was 2-0 on 30 minutes. A long kick from keeper Chris Day found Nick Higgs who lobbed in.

When Oakley did break through, Day denied them.

Stonesfield closed the game out in the second half.

Oxford Irish Res landed the Clarendon Cup for the second time with a 3-2 win against Bletchingdon Res at the same venue.

Trailing to a Paul Faulkner penalty, Irish’s Ronan Hennigh made it 1-1 at the break.

Goals from Damon Spires and substitute Ben Kerry saw Irish storm into a 3-1 lead and although Paul Hambridge’s penalty cut the lead, Irish held on to win the cup.

The finals raised £855 for charity.
