WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

OXFORD United Ladies boosted their South West Combination title hopes with a 2-1 home victory over Keynsham Town.

The result means Oxford will be champions if they win their remaining matches.

Two headed goals from leading scorer Lauren Allison were just enough for United, who will play in Women’s Super League 2 next season, to beat leaders Keynsham. Tash Caswell had already missed a presentable chance before Allison gave the U’s the lead in the 16th minute.

Caswell also hit the bar, but Keynsham deservedly equalised before the break.

Three minutes into the second half, Allison headed against the bar, but she won it with ten minutes to go.

Oxford keeper Hannah Cox made a last-minute save to keep out a long-range effort that almost squirmed through her legs.

  • TOWER Hill ensured their survival in Southern Region Women’s Division 1 with a 1-0 victory at City Belles in Milton Keynes.

Needing a draw to stay up, Samantha Bevan-Talbot scored the winner on 85 minutes.

Banbury United Ladies cruised to 4-1 victory at Chesham United Res.

Leading 2-1 at the interval through a Josie Clark strike and an own goal, Banbury dominated the second half.

Rochelle Buick and Clark completed their tally, while they also hit the woodwork three times.
