OXFORDSHIRE were comprehensively beaten 58-14 by Dorset & Wilts in their County Championship Shield Pool 3 clash.
However, Oxon did show some improvement from their opening-round defeat against Surrey, a host of tries in the final 15 minutes giving the score a rather flattering look.
The hosts were quickly out the blocks and soon led 17-0.
But Ben Nicholl forced his way over to get Oxon on the board, Will Hilton converting.
The visitors were 24-7 behind at half-time, but gave themselves hope once again when a neat chip from Ian Jeffereys was collected by Guy Nicholl, who ran in from 30 metres.
Hilton added the conversion, but that was as good as it got.
The hosts ran riot in the latter stages, scoring 34 more ans-wered points, leaving Oxon needing to beat Berkshire in their final match to to avoid finishing bottom of the group.
