LYN Jones said London Welsh will go down from the Aviva Premiership with plenty of pride in their performances.

Head coach Jones accepted there had been plenty of mistakes made as Welsh finished ten points adrift of safety, but he was keen to stay positive.

“We can look back at certain issues through the season, moments in games where we weren’t accurate,” said Jones.

“There were several five-metre scrums where we messed up when we were about to score and it goes on and on, but that’s rugby.

“Premiership players can stay calm and cool in pressure situations. We were learning to deal with that this season.

“Having said that, we will leave the Premiership with our heads high. “We have been competitive and I like to think we have brought something to the league, even if it is just democracy and the right to get promoted for any club.”

Fly half Gordon Ross, while delighted to lead Welsh to a bonus-point victory over Worcester in their final game of the season, remained frustrated that they had come up short in the league.

“It was obviously great to finish with a win, but not that we finished 12th,” said Ross.

“After ten games, we had won four and were not in a bad position.

“But then in February and March, we lost two games by a point and teams around us won games by a point.

“That made a massive difference and with the five points lost off the field, it all adds up a little bit.

“On reflection, you always think you could have done better in some games, but we’ll take that on the chin.

“We don’t know what lies ahead, but hopefully we can regroup and be competitive next year.”

He added: “The players are very well-supported out here and we have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ross will stay on as a player next year, but also expects to be doing some coaching.

On both fronts, he knows the Exiles will face a tough test in the Championship.

“When a team is relegated, you always want to put one over on them, and that will be us,” said Ross.

“The good thing is that most of the guys in the squad have experienced the Championship and know how tough a league it is.”
