NORTH Leigh will be aiming to make it seven wins in a row when they entertain Oxfordshire rivals Didcot Town in Division 1 South & West tonight.

Mark Gee, the Millers’ boss, said the key to their good run, following a slow start to the season, had been hard work.

“We’ve got some talented players, but when the bad weather came, we did not adapt to the conditions and lost confidence,” said Gee.

“But we’ve been working much harder on the field and the results have turned.”

Gee, who pinpoints  ex-North Leigh men Morgan Williams and Elliott Osborne-Ricketts as two of Didcot’s best players, is seeking to overturn the Railwaymen’s 1-0 win when the teams met in November.

Wayne Turk, who missed the Millers’ 2-1 win over Swindon Supermarine in midweek, returns to the squad, but both Jon Else and Declan Shepperd, who is wanted by Oxfordshire under 18s, are unavailable.

Didcot expect to use defender Lee Henderson, whose return after injury was delayed by the postponement of Saturday’s match at home to Merthyr Town.

The derby was switched to a Friday night, because North Leigh agreed to stage the Oxfordshire Charity Cup final tomorrow evening.

“We’re a small club and did not want to turn down a chance to earn some money from staging the final,” explained Gee, who also said the club thought they might attract a bigger crowd.

“Unfortunately, the chairman forgot that it clashed with England’s World Cup qualifer with San Marino.

He joked: “If fans get bored with our game, they can always go into the bar and watch the England match on TV.”

North Leigh (v Didcot Tn, home, tonight): from Warrell, Turk, Clark, Westlake, Hole, Walcott, Bowles, Brooks, Sanders, Mills, Alexis, Caton, McDonagh.

Abingdon United face a tough task tomorrow at home to Hungerford Town, while Banbury United visit Arlesey Town in the Premier Division.
