BANBURY and Oxfordshire batsman Lloyd Sabin is looking forward to playing for Oxford MCC Universities this year.
The 18-year-old, who is studying for a sports coaching and management degree at Oxford Brookes, will be at the university for three years.
Sabin has risen through the Oxfordshire age-grade system, earning the accolade of the youngest player to turn out for the county’s Minor Counties Championship side.
Oxford MCCU start with a couple of friendlies this month, before playing a series of matches against major counties, two of which are first class.
Sabin said: “I’m really looking forward it, although I’ve got myself some hand-warmers for the early games just in case. “If selected for the first team, I’ll probably miss one one-day game for Oxfordshire, and some league games for Banbury.”
MCCU’s captain this year will be Charlie Morris, who impressed with the ball last season.
Head coach Graham Cha-rlesworth said: “Charlie is a promising, young seam bowler, which is demonstrated by Worcestershire picking him up on a summer con-tract.”
“He will definitely lead our young, talented squad from the front.”
