Didcot Town boss Gary Elkins says Elliott Osborne-Ricketts will continue to take the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West side’s penalties – as long as he wants the job.

The midfielder has scored three of his side’s penalties this season, but has failed to put away his side’s last two spot-kicks, one in the 5-2 win at Taunton Town, and the other in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Cinderford Town.

But Elkins has no qualms about letting him take the next one.

“To be fair to him, the one against Taunton he hit well, but it hit the bottom of the post,” he said.

“On Saturday he’s again struck it well, but the keeper made a good save.

“He came in and apologised after the Cinderford game.

“He suggested someone else might want to take them in future, but I am happy for him to continue taking them as long as he wants to.”

Meanwhile, Elkins says Shortwood United will be a tougher proposition the second time around when they travel to Gloucestershire tomorrow.

Last month, Didcot won 3-2 at Shortwood in the Red Insure Cup and Elkins expects a backlash from their fellow play-off chasers.

He added: “When we played there, they clearly rested three or four players and weren’t what we expected to face, so it will be much more difficult to get a positive result.”

Didcot are without striker Pablo Haysham (hamstring).

North Leigh manager Mark Gee may give Declan Shepperd a start at home to Wimborne Town.

He came off the bench to help them to a last-gasp 2-1 win at Bishops Cleeve.

“Shepherd and Walcott (Jacob) made a real difference,” said Gee.

“He scored from Walcott’s cross (to level), then hit a post.

“He’s been playing for the reserves and when he has been in the first team has done well.

“I don’t know whether he will start, but he will definitely be involved.”

Delighted to get their first win in four games, Gee wants them to build on it.

“We had a good win at Abingdon, but lost the next one then we beat Ciren-cester, but lost the next one.

“It was nice to get a victory, but we need to get a bit more consistency.”

North Leigh will be without John Mills (hamstring), though James Organ is back from honeymoon.

Abingdon United face a trip to Taunton Town, while Banbury United travel to AFC Totton in the Premier Division.
