OXFORDSHIRE CUP
OXFORD University Greyhounds inflicted more misery on Oxford Harlequins with a 24-12 preliminary round victory at the Southern Bypass ground.
The students, who will travel to Banbury in round one, scored four tries as Quins suffered their tenth defeat in 11 matches.
Tight-head prop Jon Direen scored Greyhounds’ opening try on two minutes.
Quins full back Alex Stevenson slotted the first of his four penalties nine minutes later.
The students had No 8 Dugald Macdonald sin-binned before Stevenson’s second penalty made it 6-5.
However, a try by outside centre Henry Hughes, converted by fly half Charlie Marr, restored Greyhounds’ lead.
Loose-head Joe Mason drove over for try No 3, while Stevenson’s third penalty made it 19-9 at the break.
Stevenson struck again on 42 minutes, but wing James Dargan bagged the students’ final try, Marr converting.
