Didcot Conservative Club moved into second place in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League Premier Section after registering their first victory – a 5-0 home win over Comrades Club, writes PETE EWINS.

Dave Tooke (10,380 and 8,120), Jenny Florey, Paul Lawson (5,280) and Stuart Florey (5,750) were their victors.

Mike Jones (5,160) won the decider as leaders Vikings triumphed 3-2 at Kennington.

Alan Oliver (5,620) and Alan Lacey were also on the mark for Vikings, with Pauline Withey (4,970) and Mark Trafford (11,320, break 9,830) replying.

Berinsfield Club moved up to second in Section 2 with a 4-1 home success over Masons B.

Phil McFarland (3,460), Tony Broadway (5,850) John Boal and Geoff Mace (6,730) were their victors. Chris Webb saved Masons’ blushes by scoring 14,920, including a break of 9,350, in the last game.

Gladiators A continued their good early form by winning 4-1 at home to Dolphin.

Bert Lovegrove (9,080), Frank Cox (4,909), Keith Gardner (4,140) and Bob Pincombe (4,710) starred for Gladiators, with Melissa Standbridge (3,040) preventing a whitewash.

OXFORDSHIRE’S Pauline Withey won the Special Ladies singles at Reading.

She beat Surrey’s Denise Wills in the final after knocking out Oxon’s Jenny Florey, in the semi-final, and Sonya McIntyre, in the last eight.
