The inquest into the death of a former Rover Oxford Hockey Club goalkeeper and dedicated umpire was formally opened yesterday.
Gareth Evans, 54, was found dead at his home in Snuggs Lane, East Hanney, at 8.40pm on Sunday.
A statement on Oxford Hockey Club’s website said: “His huge contribution to local hockey will be sorely missed – and our thoughts are with his wife and children at this difficult time.”
A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Evans’ cause of death to be hanging.
His inquest was adjourned to June 5 at 11.30am.
