IRENE Gill is 100 per cent right, Layla Moran should tell transport minister Jesse Norman that not one of the three proposed Oxford-Cambridge Expressway routes should be considered (Letters, January 24), but a recreated Oxford-Cambridge railway line, already under consideration, should be built, so nullifying any need for a massively destructive ‘Varsity’ road link.
As for Andrew Adonis’s ‘Brain Belt’, brains in people’s heads don’t flourish near major roads. Jesse Norman will, of course, repeat what spokespeople for the Department for Transport keep saying: that no route has yet been chosen. Well, ladies and gentleman of the DfT, rest easy and waste no more time or energy on a proposed Expressway...it’s end-of-the-road time!
