THE second week of fixtures in the Oxfordshire Quiz League saw the Blue Boar (Chipping Norton) from the North Division become the first team outside the elite group of sides to claim the scalp of Premiership opponents when running out 81-78 winners against the Chester Arms (Oxford).

The 2011 Summer League champions Plough (Wolvercote) are still waiting to get off the mark in the Winter League, going down 81-76 at home to the Six Bells (Headington).

The result sees the ante-post favourites for the Premiership title sitting at the foot of the division with nought from two.

The other all-Premiership match resulted in a nail-biting 74-72 win for The Hatchet (Childrey) over near neighbours Bell (Grove).

The result sees the Childrey-based side take pride of place at the top of the division.

Two teams in the East Division of the league boast 100 per cent records – The Rising Sun (Haddenham) and the Chandos Arms (Oakley) aka ‘John Mole’s Oakley Army’.

White Hart (Eynsham) eased to the top of the West Division alongside Blacks Head (Bletchingdon) and The Woodman Inn (North Leigh) following an impressive 74-66 win away at the Windrush Club (Witney).

Despite going down to the Seacourt Bridge (Botley) by 69 points to 59, newbies to the league Highwayman Hotel (Kidlington) improved by 13 points on their debut score.

Heading the North Division of the league with the Blue Boar are reigning champions Crown (Church Enstone) and the Rock Of Gibraltar (Enslow).

All three teams sit with maximum points, the Crown having overcome the Chequers (Chipping Norton) 66-60, and ‘The Rock’ recording another big score in their 74-59 win against The Sun (Hook Norton).

In the Oxford Division, the Black Swan (Crown Street) have made their best ever start to a league campaign and proudly sit joint top of the league following an eye- catching 71-70 win away at the Green Road Club (Kidlington).

Heading the division are the North Oxford Conservative Club whose aggregate score of 166 is the highest of the whole league. Impressive. Every team in the division have now broken their duck for the season following the Gardeners Arms’ (North Parade) 68-67 win at home to the Kings Arms (Wheatley) and the Royal Sun’s (Begbroke) high-scoring 83-51 win away at the Blacks Head (Bletchingdon).

Following last week’s fixtures eight teams proudly boast 100 per cent records – Blue Boar (Chipping Norton), Crown (Church Enstone), Rock of Gibraltar (Enslow), Rising Sun (Haddenham), Chandos Arms (Oakley), North Oxford Conservative Club, Black Swan (Oxford) and Hatchet (Childrey).

Divisional leaders in the Blockbuster Competition are Six Bells (Headington) 30pts, Crown (Church Enstone) 29, White Hart (Eynsham) 32, Rising Sun (Haddenham) 34, Black Swan (Oxford)/Green Road Club (Kidlington) 30.

This week’s fixtures have thrown up some intriguing matches, none more so than Chandos Arms v Rising Sun, Black Swan v Blue Boar, Chester Arms v Hatchet and Gateshead Inn v Highwayman Hotel.
