SO the great ticket rush is on. Thousands of Oxford United’s allocation for the Wembley play-off final were snapped up yesterday because it is, quite simply, the hottest ticket in town.

There are grumblings about the price but United fans need to keep it all in perspective.

We are on the cusp of returning from the wilderness and there will be 37,500 fans at Wembley all hoping to witness that.

The last time United were at Wembley was that famous Milk Cup day in 1986.

Of course, the prize is completely different, but there is a whole loyal generation who have unfortunately witnessed the lean years of our club.

May 16 will hopefully be the start of the change for them.

Times are indeed hard, but some crumb of comfort for United fans will hopefully be that some of their entry cost will benefit the club.

And, of course, United themselves had no say in the setting of the prices.

On more than one occasion on Monday people enthused ‘It’s going to be a great day’.

Well, a great day out does cost, and £40 will be small change for years of remembering a golden day in the Wembley sunshine.
