Been thinking of getting old trusty out of the garage? Fed up of only cycling your boring commute?

If you want to try new routes and meet new people I have a few dates for your diary.

From June 15 to 23 the country will be knee deep in cyclists, the reason being it’s Bike Week once again.

OK, you may have spotted it’s not really a week but just over but it sounds catchy.

Bike Week is the annual opportunity to promote cycling nationwide.

I am on the committee of volunteers who organise Oxford Bike Week. Together we are a mix of members from most of the Oxfordshire bike groups.

We have put together a website to promote the different rides at oxfordbikeweek.co.uk, so finding a ride that fits in your diary and your level of ability is easy.

It’s a great way to try out the different clubs if you have been thinking of joining one.

For the energetic the Cycling Tourists Club (CTC) is opening its weekend rides up to everybody’ Just for the ladies the Isis group has ride on Monday, June 17.

If you are thinking of getting into triathlon, the Oxford Tri has a social ride on Tuesday, June 18, or if you just want an easy going day or evening out there are many interesting historical and fun rides happening most days of Bike Week.

You could even try your hand at a bit of mountain biking with my partner Kevin on the last Sunday of Bike Week, June 23.

Staying off the roads and getting a little muddy is always my idea of fun and you can even get a bike off him if you don’t have your own – just contact him via the website to book one.

However, if you’re reading this and you don’t currently cycle, Bike Week is also for you.

If your bike is broken and getting the hard cash to fix it is tricky at the moment, get yourself down to the Broken Spoke and do it yourself at one of their open workshops during Bike Week.

If you have a disability, then the ‘have a go’ Sports day or the ‘Wheels for all’ afternoon could help. You will be able to try out trikes, bikes, handcycles or even a wheelchair transporter.

All levels of disability or ability are welcome at these events.

Finally, if that doesn’t persuade you to get On Yer Bike there is a Bike Film Night at the Oxford Action Resource Centre showing the wonderful Belleville Rendez-vous.

This is a unique, animated movie telling the story of an elderly woman who has to rescue her Tour de France cycling grandson who has been kidnapped by the French Mafia.

It’s rated a 12 certificate so you could take the youngsters.

So there you go, put some dates in your diary, pump up your tyres and join in the fun for Bike Week.

More information is available for nationwide events at bikeweek.org.uk I’ll see you there.
