THE battle to save some of ‘the rarest habitat in England’, here in Oxford, will be the subject of a free talk tonight.

City ecologist Judy Webb will be urging others to join the fight with her event at Exeter Hall in Kidlington from 6.30pm.

Dr Webb will reveal her and her colleagues’ efforts to protect the internationally-important alkaline fen which is found at the Lye Valley in the heart of Headington.

Calling the swamps ‘among the most biodiverse of all habitats’ she said: “They support many wetland plants that are rare or endangered nationally or in the county.

“Come along to this free talk to learn about how we can protect this threatened habitat.”
