STUDENTS from a school near Witney are in with a chance of winning a global F1 competition.
A team of pupils from Cokethorpe School won the regional final of the Formula 1 in Schools contest, which challenges secondary school-age young engineers to design and test tiny prototype race cars.
Cokethorpe took first place while another team from the same school won the 'best engineered car' category.
The aim of the global competition is to raise awareness and interest in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Regional finalists go on to compete in the national contest and then the world finals, when teams from more than 40 countries will compete for the title.
Pupils spent six weeks designing a car, creating a portfolio, pit display and producing a presentation for the judges.
The cars were then propelled down a 25m track using a CO2 canister, and the team with the quickest car on the track were crowned the winners.
Regional finalists go on to the national championships and the winner of that then progresses to the world finals, when teams from more than 40 countries will compete for the title.
