A SCHOOL in Oxford has improved its outdoor spaces thanks to the 'generosity' of supporters.

Wolvercote Primary School shared the progress in its first newsletter of term, thanking volunteers from British Gas for visiting during the summer.

The team laid a path around the edge of the field, which will later be filled with woodchip, so children have a new space to play in bad weather when the grass is too wet.

The newsletter added: "In October we will have further play equipment installed, thanks to the generosity of those who donated towards this project last year.

"Some of the equipment will go in the 'quiet area' and some will be at the end of the field, hence the need for the path."

The letter also mentioned new facilities for the younger children, including a reading shed and a large sail for added shelter.

It stated: "All of this has only been possible due to the kindness of people giving their time, money and expertise."

At the end of last term, the school thanked a teacher's partner for building a new coop for its chickens,

Wolvercote is one of several schools in the county to keep chickens.

The latest newsletter added: "The chickens are thriving in their new home and the children eagerly await the first eggs."

It also said the on-site vegetable beds were looking 'remarkably healthy' and a giant clock has been painted on the playground to help children learn to tell the time.
