RESIDENTS have vowed to help keep their estate pristine after a council-led cleaning blitz.

Oxford City Council said more than 75 people signed a pledge to keep Littlemore clean, after it carried out a two-week deep clean in the area.

Council staff swept the roads, removed graffiti, undertook dog fouling patrols and visited 350 properties to advise residents and businesses about rubbish collection and recycling.

The clean-up targeted dog mess as councillors and residents - particularly around Minchery Road - had cited this issue as a key concern.

Teams also removed graffiti in the Long Lane underpass and in Thomson Terrace.

Councillor Nigel Chapman, board member for customer focused services, said: "Our street cleaners work hard all year round but sometimes it really pays off to concentrate our resources in a specific area for a limited time.

"We've carried out five of these concentrated, area-based, cleaning efforts over the last two years and the results speak for themselves.

"I hope everyone will notice the difference and be inspired to keep their area clean throughout the year."

The clean-up ran from 16 to 29 July and more are being planned for other areas of Oxford.
