STAFF and students from an Abingdon boarding school are getting on their bikes to fundraise for a mental health charity that supports young people.
Radley College, an independent boys school, is fielding a team of 13 staff and students for popular cycling event Bike Oxford to help raise funds for the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.
Founded in 1977 in memory of Charlie Waller, a young man who took his own life while suffering from depression, the charity educates young people about the importance of staying mentally well.
Organised by Iconic Cycling Events, Bike Oxford is open to families and cycling enthusiasts.
It will this year take place on Sunday, May 20, starting and ending at the Oxford University Rugby Football Club ground on Iffley Road.
Riders will be given the choice of three routes - 25, 50 or 80-mile – taking in the historic centre of Oxford before venturing out into the heart of the Cotswolds.
Paul Fernandez, in charge of athletics at Radley College, said: “As my job involves working closely with young people, the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust is a cause close to my heart.
"It seemed like a logical step to combine my love of adventurous activities with a cause that works to support young people and help them combat mental illness.”
