A TALK this week will investigate the life of John Henry Brookes, one of the 20th century's leading influential education leaders who had a huge impact on Oxford.

A lecture by local historian Bryan Brown will cover how influential thinkers shaped his views, his arts and his craft career and his long struggles to create the Headington campus that now bears his name.

All money raised by the event will go towards funding the ambitious £2.7m overhaul of the Museum of Oxford on St Aldates.

The man who inspired a university by Bryan Brown will be held on Thursday from 6pm.

For tickets, book through Eventbrite, with them £4 per person.

As part of the proposed redevelopment, the museum will triple in size and increase the number of exhibits on display from 286 to 750.

It is hoped construction will start next week, with it opening in 2020.

The council wants to raise £451,000 through the museum's own fundraising trust.

Other new parts of the museum will include two galleries with state-of-the-art interactive exhibits and a new space, called Museum Makers, where children and adult visitors will be able to get their hands on exhibits during their trip.

The Old Museum, which closed in 2011, will be reopened and knocked through into the current museum and part of its basement will be redeveloped.

It is hoped, the new museum's entrance will be accessed from the Town Hall’s foyer.
