A ONE-DAY music education conference is to take place in Oxford later this month.

The conference, featuring leading music education experts, will take place on Saturday, February 24 at The Oxford Spires Hotel in Abingdon Road.

The one-day event invites all piano teachers from across Oxfordshire to join some of the industry’s leading experts from around the world for workshops and talks.

The conference aims to act as a catalyst to help change teaching habits for music teachers in the modern era.

Speakers will include Prof Susan Hallam, Emerita Professor of Education and Music Psychology at University College London. Dr Julie Knerr and Katherine Fisher from the United States, and Samantha Coates from Australia, author of the BlitzBooks series.

Neil Evans, Head of EMI at Casio, which is backing the conference, said: “Musical experiences and opportunities must be accessible to all.

“That is why we’re joining forces to explore how piano teaching can be redefined today and raise awareness of music teachers.

“We’re delighted to engage with teachers in Oxford and look forward to finding out how we can support them in developing their teaching styles.

Dr Sally Cathcart, Co-Founder and Director of The Curious Piano Teachers, added: “We want this event to serve as a catalyst for change.”
